Birthday Cake Protein Ice Cream

If there’s one thing I’ll never get tired of, it’s birthday cake-flavored anything. If it’s an option, it’s going to be my number one choice every single time. With that being said, I had been dying to make a Birthday Cake Protein Ice Cream recipe, but for some odd reason, I could not find any rainbow sprinkles lmao. Literally, every store around me only had big tubs of them, and I simply was not willing to make the investment knowing it would take my entire life to use them all. However, yesterday I went to the store, and they were finally back in stock, and as soon as I got home, I came up with something—and now here we are 🙂.
This ice cream is very good, very delicious, very amazing, very high-protein, very healthy… ish… healthy enough. How about that? Okay, let’s get into the recipe! 🥳
Reasons to Try This:
- Tastes like cake batter ice cream – No chalky protein taste here! The mix of vanilla protein powder, cheesecake pudding mix, and cake batter extract brings that rich, sweet, bakery-fresh flavor.
- Super high-protein – With 32g of protein in the full serving, it’s a game-changer for hitting your macros.
- Lower in calories – At just 411 calories for the whole pint, this is a satisfying dessert that won’t throw off your day.
- Customizable mix-ins – Golden Oreos and sprinkles make it feel like a true birthday treat, but you can switch things up however you want or omit them for a lower calorie option.

Ingredients
Ice Cream Base
- 1½ cups (360ml) 2% milk
- OR 1 cup (240ml) 2% milk + ½ cup (120ml) unsweetened vanilla almond milk (for a lighter option)
- 1 scoop (31g) vanilla protein powder
- 14g sugar-free cheesecake pudding mix
- 1 tsp cake batter extract
- 1 tsp butter extract
- 1 tsp stevia or sweetener of choice (to taste)
- Pinch of salt
Mix-Ins
- 8g rainbow sprinkles
- 3 Golden Oreos (creme removed) → Once the creme is scraped out, you’ll be left with 6 cookies.
How to Make It
1. Blend the Ice Cream Base
Add all the ice cream base ingredients to a blender and blend until smooth. This ensures everything is fully incorporated and you don’t get any lumps from the pudding mix or protein powder.

2. Freeze for 24 Hours
Pour the blended mixture into a Ninja Creami pint and place it on a level surface in the freezer. Let it freeze for at least 24 hours before spinning.

3. Spin the Ice Cream
Once frozen, take the pint out of the freezer and run it under hot water for 1-2 minutes on all sides, including the bottom. This helps soften the edges so the Ninja Creami can spin properly.
Place the pint in the Ninja Creami, lock it in place, and spin on Light Ice Cream mode.
4. Re-Spin for the Perfect Consistency
After the first spin, the texture might look crumbly. This is normal! Just re-spin 1-2 times until it reaches that creamy consistency.

5. Add the Mix-Ins
Scrape the creme out of the 3 Golden Oreos (if you haven’t already), create a well in the middle of the ice cream and add the Golden Oreo cookies and rainbow sprinkles (reserving a little for topping, if desired).
Spin on Mix-In mode to incorporate everything.

6. Top & Enjoy!
Crush the remaining Oreo over the top and sprinkle on any leftover sprinkles. Grab a spoon and dig in!

Why Remove the Creme from the Oreos?
If you’re wondering why we’re scraping out the Oreo creme, here’s why:
- It cuts down the calories significantly – A full Golden Oreo has 53 calories, but when you remove the creme, each cookie half is only 11 calories.
- The texture stays the same – The cookie pieces mix in perfectly, and you don’t even notice the creme is missing.
- It lets the birthday cake flavor shine – The rich, buttery vanilla flavor is the star here, and removing the creme keeps the balance just right.
Tips & Customizations
- Want it lower calorie? Swap the 2% milk for a lower calorie option like almond milk or use less mix-ins.
- More mix-in ideas: Try adding white chocolate chips, crushed graham crackers, or a drizzle of sugar-free caramel.
- No cake batter extract? It won’t be exactly the same, but you can use vanilla extract with a tiny drop of almond extract for a similar vibe.
- Want it extra creamy? Add 1-2 tbsp of fat-free Greek yogurt or substitute the almond milk with more 2%.

FAQ
Can I make this without a Ninja Creami?
Technically, yes, but the texture may not be the same. You can try blending and freezing the mixture in ice cube trays, then re-blending it in a high-speed blender with a little extra milk or just drinking it as a shake!
Can I use regular Oreos instead of Golden Oreos?
Yep! Regular Oreos will give it more of a cookies-and-cream vibe, while Golden Oreos keep it more true to a classic birthday cake flavor.
Do I have to use protein powder?
The protein powder helps with texture and flavor, but if you want a lower-protein version, you could replace it with vanilla Greek yogurt or a little extra pudding mix for thickness.
What if I don’t have cheesecake pudding mix?
You could use vanilla pudding mix instead but for some odd reason I find that the cheesecake pudding mix brings out the cake flavor a little more.
How long does it last in the freezer?
Since Ninja Creami ice cream freezes solid, it’s best eaten fresh. If you store leftovers, just let the pint sit at room temp for 10 minutes before eating or re-spin it in the Ninja Creami.
